Cyprus unemployment stabilises in September

Unemployment measured on a seasonally adjusted basis was steady in September, according to the latest figures from the Statistical Service.
The seasonally adjusted figures showed unemployment at 23,538, compared with 23,553 in August.
On a non-seasonally adjusted basis, registered unemployment reached 20,671, down from 22,365in August.
However, it was still higher than the year earlier, rising by 17.3% to 20,671.
The main sectors affected were retail and wholesale trade (an increase of 661 compared with 2009), construction (an increase of 372), manufacturing (364), hotels and restaurants (343), other service activities (205), and real estate and business activities (199).
The number of newcomers to the labour market registering as unemployed rose by 661.
