An agreement was signed Wednesday between the Republic of Cyprus and Switzerland for the co-financing of the upgrading of the Technical Vocational Training offered by the Cyprus Productivity Centre (CPC).

According to an official announcement Switzerland will contribute €1.184.280 and Cyprus will contribute €214.350 from national funds.

The programme, which is to be implemented by the CPC in co-operation with the Cyprus Employers' and Industrialists' Federation and the Swiss Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training, is due to be completed in three years.

It is expected to contribute significantly to the upgrade of the Technical Vocational Training capacity of the CPC mainly through the acquisition of specialized equipment in its workshops in Nicosia, Limassol and Larnaka, and also among other things through the development of training courses that will utilize state-of-the-art technologies and the training of the Centre instructors.

The project is also expected to contribute to combating social exclusion of vulnerable groups, including young people without qualifications, by giving them the opportunity to acquire skills allowing them to enter the employment market.

The agreement was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Planning Bureau George Georgiou and the Ambassador of Switzerland to Cyprus Peter Vogler.
