Cyprus services turnover up 3.8% in Jan-Apr

The general turnover value index for the period April – June 2010 recorded an increase of 3.8% compared with the corresponding period of 2009, according to the latest figures from the Statistical Service.
The general turnover value index covers specific divisions and does not refer to the whole services sector of Cyprus economy.
Accommodation and food service activities recorded an increase of 4.8% and travel agencies recorded an increase of 13.2% compared with the corresponding period of 2009.
Telecommunications rose by 1.6%, legal and accounting activities rose by 5.2%.
Architectural and engineering activities, reflecting the weakness of the construction sector, rose by only 0.1%.
A strong increase of 11.2% was recorded for computer programming and related activities.

Transport turnover mixed
Meanwhile, according to the turnover indices, land transport fell by 13.9% compared with the corresponding period of 2009 in January-June.
Water transport turnover increased in value by 18.5% and air transport dropped by 12.8%, reflecting the weakness in tourism.
Postal and courier activities increased by 8.4% compared with the corresponding period of 2009.
