Cyprus unemployment reaches 7.2% in 1Q 2010

Unemployment in Cyprus at the first quarter of 2010 amounted to 7.2% of the labour force, according to the Statistical Service of the Republic.
Based on the results of the Labour Force Survey, which is carried out in accordance with a European Union Regulation, for the first quarter of 2010, the number of employed persons amounted to 379,900 (206,800 men and 173,100 women).
The number of unemployed persons amounted to 29,600 (15,900 men and 13,700 women).
The employment rate for persons aged 20-64 was 74.6%, recording a small decrease both from the previous quarter and the corresponding quarter of 2009.
The unemployment rate amounted to 7.2% of the labour force, an increase both from the previous quarter (6.0%) and the corresponding quarter of 2009 (4.6%).
Also, the unemployment rate for young persons aged 15-24 amounted to 20.4% of the labour force of the same age group recording an increase both from the previous quarter (16.5%) and the corresponding quarter of 2009 (10.0%).
