Cyprus trade deficit widens in April

The trade deficit widened in April, according to preliminary estimates for the month, reaching EUR 403 mln, compared with EUR 364 mln in April 2009.
Total imports/ arrivals reached EUR 483.5 mln in April, of which EUR 345.1 mln were arrivals from other Member States of the EU and EUR 138.4 mln imports from third countries.
Total exports/dispatches amounted to EUR 80.9 mln of which EUR 49.9 mln were dispatches to other Member States of the EU and EUR 31.0 mln exports to third countries.
Meanwhile, according to revised data for March, the trade deficit in the first three months totalled EUR 1,244.8 mln compared with EUR 1,162.0 mln in the corresponding period of 2009.
Total imports/arrivals amounted to EUR 1,509.3 mln compared with EUR 1,386.5 mln in January-March 2009.
Total imports comprise imports from third countries and arrivals from other Member States.
Total exports/dispatches reached EUR 264.5 mln compared with EUR 224.6 mln in January-March 2009.
Total exports comprise exports to third countries and dispatches to other Member States.
In March alone, 2010 total imports were valued at EUR 583.9 mln and total exports were valued at EUR 108.8 mln.
Εxports/dispatches of domestically produced goods, including stores and provisions, reached EUR 63.6 mln while exports/dispatches of foreign goods, including stores and provisions, totalled EUR 45.2 mln.
