Cyprus jobless still up in April, but less steeply

Unemployment still rose over the year earlier in April but the pae of increase continued to moderate.
The number unemployed persons registered at the District Labour Offices on the last day of April 2010 reached 21,633 persons. This was an increase of 5,527 or 34.3% over April 2009.
The main increase was in the sectors of construction (an increase of 1,158), trade (1,058), public administration (615), hotels and restaurants (580), manufacturing (560), real estate and business activities (450), and newcomers to the labour market (390).
According to seasonally adjusted data, the number of registered unemployed for April 2010 recorded a small increase of 0.6% compared wit the previous month and reached 22,654 persons on a seasonally adjusted basis.
