Farm output in Cyprus

The Statistical Service announced Tuesday the following statistics on farm output.

Eggs and chicks
The number of eggs for hatching placed in incubation in December reached 62,700 eggs for laying and 1,702,300 eggs for meat.
Compared with the previous month, eggs for laying recorded a decrease of 16% whereas the eggs for meat recorded a marginal increase of 0.7%.
Compared with the corresponding month of the previous year, eggs placed in incubation for laying recorded an increase of 14.5% and the eggs for meat recorded a decrease of 1.8%.
The chicks used for laying in December increased to 14,940 compared with 14,500 in November and the chicks used for meat increased to 1,312,110 from 1,175,520 in the previous month.
Compared with the corresponding month of 2008, the chicks used for laying recorded a decrease of 48.2% whereas the chicks used for meat recorded an increase of 8.2%.

Milk and milk products
The production of cows’ milk for December increased to 13,120 tonnes from 12,610 tonnes in the previous month.
Compared with the same month of the previous year, the production of cows’ milk recorded a marginal increase of 0.15%.
The quantities of milk products for August reached to 6,650 tonnes of drinking milk. 280 tons of cream, 520 tons of acidified milk and 120 tons of cheese from cow’s milk.

Meat
The number of animals slaughtered in December recorded an increase for almost all kinds of animals compared with the previous month with the exception of cattle.
Compared with the same month of the previous year, cattle slaughterings fell by 15.9%, pig slaughterings fell by 6.7%, goats by 26.7% and poultry by 1.9%.
Sheep slaughterings rose 5.1%.
