We put our fifth issue of CYPRUS GOURMET MAGAZINE “to bed” this week and it is our most exciting issue yet. You, dear reader or subscriber of the Financial Mirror, will be the first to see it, as we are inserting the magazine into every copy of this newspaper next week. Why is it exciting? For several reasons…

1) OUR TOP 50 CYPRUS WINES – After widespread research and consultations with many of our readers, wine consumers and members of the trade we assembled a list of the most popular, most liked and most respected wines produced in Cyprus. This was refined by our research and tasting panel, led by George Kassianos, to produce what we consider to be the FIFTY BEST.
2) The issue is a true “Celebration of Cyprus” – with reviews of exciting and stylish new ventures in catering and tourism, a profile of our oldest wine company and a whole section on eating locally produced (and healthy) food.
3) Our first ON-LINE WINE offer – providing our readers with a chance to have two bottles of each of six wines delivered to home or office at a most advantageous price. The wines are from three outstanding local wineries.

Make sure you get your copy of Cyprus Gourmet Magazine next week; it’s been created with a lot of hard work, some good ideas, a little inspiration and a lot of perspiration by a small team of very dedicated people!
From March 10 the Magazine will be in news-stand distribution and also available to customers at some of our best wine shops, restaurants and hotels.

So Much for the Good News…

An item came across my desk this week that caused a major lifting of eye-brows. A friend told me of a couple of notable local companies who, “to save costs during the recession” had got rid of several marketing personnel. I’ll bet the accountants are still all in position! Which reminds me of a true story – a well known hotelier who has risen through the F & B ranks was talking to me about the high prices of wine on his hotel’s wine list. “But why don’t you reduce the prices? Put on special offers? House wines? Wines by the glass?” His reply devastated me: “Our wine prices are decided by the Finance Director”, he said.
