Revenue from tourism in Cyprus down by 16,7% in 2009

Revenue from tourism is estimated at 1.493,2 million euro in 2009, compared to 1.792,8 million in 2008, recording a decrease of 16.7%.

According to the Statistical Service of the Republic of Cyprus, on the basis of the results of the Passenger Survey, revenue from tourism reached 42,7million in December 2009 compared to 51,6 million in the corresponding month of the previous year, recording a decrease of 17.3%.

The average per person expenditure of tourists decreased from 715,2 euro in December 2009, to 644,6 euro in the same month of 2009. The per day expenditure of tourists also decreased to 58,6 euro in December 2009, compared 63,9 euro in the corresponding month in 2008.

Finally, according to the Statistical Service, tourist arrivals marked a decrease of 10.9% in 2009, compared to 2008.
