”United Cyprus” platform organises event for peace

The platform of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot teachers ''United Cyprus'' staged a bicommunal event on Tuesday at Ledra Palace in Nicosia, on the occasion of the World Peace Day, to declare the will for peace in Cyprus and reunification of the island.

The teachers held two separate marches from either side of Nicosia, and joined at Ledra Palace checkpoint, symbolically uniting the divided capital.

The organisers of the event said the message they wanted to send to the leaders of the two communities and the international community was for peace in Cyprus and a solution of the Cyprus problem.

During the event, the teachers set free three doves and read out the declaration of the platform in Greek and Turkish, which notes that ''the road leading to peace in Cyprus is a common struggle.''

The declaration also expresses the determination of the teachers to struggle for peace.
