New Cypriot MPs named

The names of the three new members of the House of Representatives, who will replace the recently elected Cypriot members of the European Parliament, were officially announced on Tuesday in two separate ceremonies in Nicosia and Limassol.
Panikos Champas of AKEL takes the seat of MEP Takis Hatzigeorgiou, Andreas Kyprianou of DISY replaces MEP Eleni Theocharous and Stelios Ieronymides of DIKO replaces MEP Antigoni Papadopoulou.
Champas and Ieronymides were declared members of parliament by the District Officer of Nicosia Argyris Papanastasiou in the presence of President of the House of Representatives Marios Garoyian. Kyprianou was proclaimed a MP by the District Officer of Limassol Anastasia Mavrelli.
Speaking after the ceremony in Nicosia, Garoyian welcomed the three new MPs, saying he is sure they will serve the Republic, the institutions and the Constitution with a high sense of responsibility. He added that he expects them to contribute to the achievement of the goals set by the Parliament, for the best of the Cypriot people.
Champas said that among his priorities are the serious agricultural problems, the environment, problems displaced and enclaved persons (living in northern Turkish occupied Cyprus) face, high prices and consumer rights.
Kyprianou said that he will stand by the people who live in rural areas, trying to solve their major problems. He also promised to work hard to help upgrade the town of Limassol into a modern European city.
Ieronymides said he is determined to work hard for his country as well as for the dignity and rights of every citizen. Among his priorities is the promotion of better relations between citizens and the state.
House President Marios Garoyian welcomed the new MPs, saying that they will serve the country and its institutions.
