President of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat will be meeting on Friday, in the context of direct negotiations to solve the Cyprus problem, to continue discussion on territory and the opening of Limnitis checkpoint.

During their last meeting on June 15, the leaders of the two communities exchanged views on territory and on the opening of Limnitis crossing point, which will facilitate movement to and from the northern Turkish occupied areas of the island.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third.

President Christofias and Talat have been engaged in direct negotiations since September 2008, with an aim to reunite the island.
