With a total of 92 medals, Cyprus firmly stayed at the top spot of the overall medal standings at the end of the third day's competitions, in the XIII Games of the Small States of Europe, currently taking place on the island for the second time since 1989.
According to the official website of the Games, Cyprus leads the GSSE medal table with 34 gold, 35 silver and 23 bronze medals.
Iceland is in second place with 59 medals (26 gold, 20 silver and 13 bronze medals) and Luxembourg lies in third place with 43 medals ( 18 gold, 10 silver, and 15 bronze medals).
Monaco ranks fourth with 27 medals (4 gold, 10 silver and 13 bronze medals), San Marino is fifth with 16 medals (3 gold, 9 silver and 4 bronze medals), Andorra is sixth with 9 medals (1 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze medals), Liechtenstein is seventh with 10 medals (1 gold, 2 silver and 7 bronze medals) and Malta is eighth with 11 medals (1 gold, 1 silver and 9 bronze medals).
During Thursday’s competitions, Cypriot athlete Antroula Shialou won two gold medals, one in the 400m. hurdles and the other in 400m. race. Cypriot Julia Christodoulou secured the bronze medal in the same event.
Panikos Kyprianou from Cyprus took the gold medal in 3.000m. steeplechase men, while Stefanos Hatzinikolaou of Cyprus won the 400 and the gold medal.
Marianna Zachariadi took the gold in the women’s pole vault and Maria Aristotelous claimed the bronze.
Alexandros Stavridis gave Cyprus another gold medal in the 110m. hurdles race.
Nektaria Panagi of Cyprus won gold in women’s long jump and Irini Charalambous took the bronze medal.
Georgia Constantinidou won the bronze medal in Women's Trap Shooting.
Cypriot shooters Irini Panteli and Constantina Pratsi won silver and bronze medal in women’s air rifle respectively.
In Mountain Bike event, three athletes of Cyprus, Marios Athanasiadis, Vasilis Adamou and Michalis Kitis won the top three medals, gold, silver and bronze respectively.
Cyprus won also the silver medal in the women’s double tennis table while it shared the bronze medal with San Marino in men’s double tennis table.
More than one thousand athletes from eight small states of Europe with an independent Olympic Committee – Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, San Marino and Cyprus – are participating in the Games.
The schedule for Friday, 4th day of the competitions, includes basketball, Beach Volleyball, Gymnastics, Judo, Sailing, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis and Volleyball.
The Games conclude on Saturday, June 6.
