The Electricity Authority of Cyprus and Bishop Athanassios of Limassol have signed a memorandum of understanding for the long-term lease of a parcel of land near Akrotiri, where the power utility will develop a solar park with a potential output capacity of 50-100 MW.
The agreement was signed by EAC Chairman Haris Thrassou who said, according to local press reports, that the planning and operation of the solar power unit will be undertaken by an EAC subsidiary.
The Financial Mirror reported two weeks ago that the EAC plans to establish a number of subsidiaries that will diversify the utility’s operations and revenue base, including clean sources of energy, management of the LNG terminal and better utilisation of its properties.
