Cyprus political parties commemorate Armenian genocide

Cyprus’s political parties commemorated the 94th Anniversary of the Armenian genocide by the Turks by issuing statements of support for the Armenian people. Cyprus is among the first nations to have recognised the Armenian genocide by the Turks and is one of the key supporters of Armenia in the EU.

Armenians flooded to a monument above Yerevan on Friday to lay flowers in remembrance of the World War I killing of Armenians by Ottoman Turks, even as the country looks to an historic accord with Turkey.
Armenia and Turkey said on Wednesday night that they have agreed on a `roadmap' for normalizing bilateral relations after an almost year of intensive negotiations mediated by Switzerland. It remained unclear, however, whether they will establish diplomatic relations and open their border anytime soon.
`The two parties have achieved tangible progress and mutual understanding in this process and they have agreed on a comprehensive framework for the normalization of their bilateral relations in a mutually satisfactory manner,' the Armenian and Turkish foreign ministries said in a joint statement. `
Cyprus Armenians will march tonight through Armenia Street to the Armenian Church where a ceremony will be held. The main event to condemn the genocide will be held on Saturday under the auspices of Cyprus House President Marios Garoyian.
