The Democratic Party (DIKO) has announced the names of its candidates who will run for the June European elections.

The ballot paper was ratified on Wednesday by the party Central Committee.

The candidates are lawyer and member of DIKO Youth Organisation (NEDIK) General Secretariat Aggelides Simos, academic, journalist and President of DIKO in UK, Ellinas Michalis, Health Ministry Director General Yiannos Papadopoulos, MP and President of the Women Organisation of DIKO (GODIK) Antigoni Papadopoulou, Journalist Demetris Souglis and entrepreneur Tanou Elena.

In statements after the party meeting yesterday, DIKO President Marios Garoyian spoke about a team comprising six hard working and experienced persons, having a European profile, knowledge and passion to offer their services to society.

He also expressed the conviction that DIKO’s ballot “might be the pleasant surprise of these elections and ensure, enhance and maximise party’s regulatory role”.

Cyprus will participate for the second time in the EP elections. The first time was in June 2004, only one month after Cyprus’ accession to the EU.

Cyprus is represented at the EP by six MEPs.
