The Cyprus News Agency (CNA) has signed an agreement of cooperation with the Egyptian Middle East News Agency (MENA).

The agreement was signed Tuesday in Cairo by Chairman of the CNA Board of Directors Costakis Constantinou and Chairman and Chief Editor of MENA Abdullah Hassan, in the framework of the three- day official visit of President of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias in Egypt.

It provides for the exchange of news items and photographs, cooperation in the technical and IT fields and reciprocal exchange of visits of editorial staff members and IT professionals.

In particular, the agreement provides for the exchange of up to ten news items a day in English language, which will be send via internet free of charge.

In statements to CNA after signing the agreement, Constantinou said that during his visit at the MENA premises he exchanged views with the Chairman and Chief Editor of MENA and a staff team on the activities of the two news agencies and ways to develop further their cooperation.

Constantinou said that he expressed his gratitude to the MENA leadership for the close and friendly cooperation of the two agencies, noting that their relations are longstanding.

ΜΕΝΑ, he went on to add, was among the first news agencies with which CNA signed an agreement, in 1986, providing for the translation of its news items in the Arabic language.
