Inflation in Cyprus crept up again in March, as food prices climbed.
Having dipped to only 0.7% in February, the annual inflation rate rose to 1.1% in March. This was the first increase since July.
However, the rate in March was considerably lower than the peak of July, when prices rose by 5.6% compared with the same month of the previous year.
Compared with the previous month, the consumer price index for rose by 1.43% to 109.36.
This was mainly owing to increases in the prices of clothing and footwear items following the end of the winter sales.
There were also increases in the prices of certain fresh vegetables and fruit, the Statistical Service reported.
Decreases were recorded in the oil-related items of electricity prices, diesel for cars and heating.
For the period January-March 2009, the CPI recorded an increase of 1.0% compared to the corresponding period of 2008.
