Q4 food prices rise in Cyprus

The Statistical Service has announced the movement in prices of various food products, showing a general rise compared with the previous year.
The producer price index of fresh vegetables decreased to 155 in December 2008, from 168 in the previous month. The index increased by 53% in the fourth quarter of 2008 compared to the respective quarter of 2007.
The producer price index of tomatoes for December 2008, decreased to 204 from 213 in November. In the fourth quarter of 2008 the producer price index of tomatoes was doubled compared to the fourth quarter of 2007.
The producer price index of cucumbers for December 2008, was 130, remaining at the same levels with the previous month. In the fourth quarter of 2008, the index recorded an increase by 13% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2007.
The producer price index of pork meat for December 2008, increased to 135 from 129 compared to the previous month. The index increased by 4.6% in the fourth quarter of 2008 compared to the respective quarter of 2007.
The producer price index of chicken meat for December 2008, was 152, remaining at the same level with the previous months. In the fourth quarter of 2008 the producer price index of chicken meat showed an increase of 4.3% compared to the fourth quarter of 2007.
The producer price index of cow’s milk for December 2008, increased to 167 from 166 compared to the previous month. The index in the fourth quarter of 2008, increased by 16.1% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2007.
The producer price index for fruits for December 2008, decreased to 159, from 181, compared to the previous month.
Compared to the corresponding month of 2007, the index recorded an insignificant increase of 1.3%.
