Round Table International clubs in 67 countries will be celebrating Round Table International Day on March 14, raising awareness for the local charity events they sponsor or organise.
Although Round Tables and their affiliate associations raise funds for local projects, they are not charities.
Founded in 1927 by a young Rotarian, Louis Marchesi, membership is open to professionals aged 18 to 40.
Round Table International President George Psaras of Cyprus said that “we are very much family orientated and plan many social and other events that help many other groups and charities. We are building schools in India, Kenya, and Nepal, helping children in Sri Lanka, Romania, and in South Africa, and in each of the countries Round Table operates.”
“In Cyprus, we are educating children against the use of addictive substances,” he said.
The worldwide organisation and its sister associates have a membership of more than 35,000 professionals, regarded as one of the largest service clubs in the world.
For the 2008-09 club activity year, the Round Table International has its headquarters in Cyprus, hosted by its international president George M Psaras from Round Table 1 Nicosia.
