The Electricity Authority of Cyprus is injecting EUR 16.5 mln into the local economy by proceeding with immediate plans to build a new regional office in Paphos.
The contract, won by the A. Panayides Contracting and Loizos Iordanou Construction joint venture, was signed by EAC chairman Haris Thrassou and General Manager Moyses Stavrou, as well as Stavros Theodosiou on behalf of A. Panayides and Aristeides Ioannou on behalf of Loizos Iordanou.
The new building will house a closed-circuit 132/11 KV substation, replacing the aged open-circuit substation for the area, and will utilise alternative sources of energy to power up its conference and training halls.
Thrassou added that the contract also foresees the transfer of overground power cables from the existing substation to Marathounta-Konia through the laying of underground cables stretching about 3.8 kms.
He added that the new regional office will also contribute to the development of the area at the first junction at the end of the Limassol-Paphos highway and that the EAC will spend about EUR 300,000 to beautify the area.
The whole project should be completed by September 2011. It was designed by architect Iraklis Papachristou and Earthquake Protected Systems as civil engineers, with Mitsides Samouil and Associates as electromechanical engineers and Demosthenous and Adamides as quantity surveyors for the project.
