A Cyprus Airways plane, with 114 people on board, has come off a taxiway at Heathrow Airport in London a few minutes after it had landed smoothly in bad weather conditions.

Cyprus Airways spokesman Kyriakos Kyriakou has assured CNA that all 104 passengers and 10- member crew are safe and unharmed, noting that Cyprus Airways Airbus A330 was carrying out flight CY 322 from Larnaca to London.

He said that the plane departed from Larnaca airport at 04.40 in the morning and landed smoothly at Heathrow at 08.20 local time.

Kyriakou explained that while the plane was moving towards the final terminal, at some point of taxiway, due to the fact that the entire surface of the airport was covered by thick snow with no sign, the two front wheels of the plane slipped and ended in adjacent grass area.

“At once, the captain brought the plane to a halt and informed the airport authorities who sent rescue equipment. All the passengers and crew are safe and unharmed”, he added.

He concluded by saying that the plane remains at the airport to be checked mechanically, noting that in case of a problem it will remain there until it is repaired.
