Cyprus employment up, jobless down in Q3

Employment rose and unemployment fell in the third quarter according to the results of the EU-compatible Labour Force Survey.
The number of employed persons amounted to 381,903 (males 212,800 and females 169,100), compared with 301,131 in the third quarter of 2007.
In the same period the number of unemployed persons was 14,146 (males 6,600 and females 7,500), compared with 15,622 in the same quarter of 2007.
The employment rate for persons aged 15-64 was 71.,0% (males 80.,0% and females 62.,4%), the same as in the previous quarter and the corresponding quarter of 2007.
The unemployment rate amounted to 3.6% of the labour force (males 3.0% and females 4.2%) while in the second quarter the rate was 3.1% (males 2.6% and females 3.9%) and the corresponding quarter of 2007 the rate was 4.0% (males 3.2% and females 4.9%).
The unemployment rate for young persons aged 15-24 recorded an increase and reached 8.4% of the labour force of the same age group from 7.1% in the previous quarter but recorded a decrease from 10.4% in the corresponding quarter of 2007.
