Cyprus ranks 22th in Mathematics and 33rd in Science

Cyprus ranks 22nd in Mathematics and 33rd in Science among school pupils from 60 countries around the world.

According to a 2007 research carried out by TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study), Cyprus has the same performances in Mathematics like Malaysia, Norway, Bulgaria, Israel, the Ukraine and Romania.

The school pupils of Cyprus have the same performances in Science like the pupils in Iran, Syria and Turkey.

The results of the research were announced today by Constantinos Papanastasiou, Associate Professor at the University of Cyprus, which conducted the survey in Cyprus.

Papanastasiou noted that Cyprus is the country with the minimum teaching hours in Mathematics and Science among all participant countries.

The TIMSS research included 7,347 secondary schools in 49 countries and 5,889 elementary schools in 36 countries.
