Cyprus state theatre to be completed in 2011

The Cyprus Theatre Organisation (THOK) will get its own theatre, a move which has been described as a unique architectural work and a jewel for Nicosia and Cyprus.
The contracts for the construction of the theatre were signed by the Chairman of the Organisation’s Board of Directors Demetris Karayiannis and Director Varnavas Kyriazis and company appointed to carry out the construction work, scheduled to start on September 22 this year.
The project is due to be delivered in March 2011 at an estimated cost of EUR 20.5 mln plus VAT.
Both, Karayiannis and Kyriazis said they were pleased with the signing of the contracts which will give THOK after 30 months its own theatre. They described Monday as an important day for the Organisation and its 37 years of history.
Karayiannis thanked all those who have contributed towards this goal, including the President of the Republic Demetris Christofias and his Ministers of Finance and Culture.
The new theatre will be built in the area of the Nicosia’s old stadium, in the heart of the capital.
