Cyprus Stock Exchange accounts down 35% at 5101 in July

The number of active accounts on the Cyprus Stock Exchange is down at 5101 by June 2008 continuing a steady decline in tandem with the decline in equity prices, which are off by about 40% since the beginning of the year. The number of active accounts was 7783 in January 2008.
The daily average of active investors who dealt at least once during the month fell to 737 in July 2008 compared to 1072 in January, according to the July Bulletin of the CSE.
The active investors shares mobility or those who purchased equities in the CSE at least once during the month was steady at 3.03.
The CSE had a total of 258.419 investor accounts in July 2008 compared to 260.071 in January of whom 169.002 or 65.40% owned only 1 title, while 72.833 or 28.18% owned 2-5 titles. Those owning between 6-10 titles were 12.611 or 4.88% and those in excess of 10 titles were 3973 representing 1.54% of the total.
Once again, the CSE was not able or as they claim in a position to provide information on the percentage holding of foreign investors of CSE titles in contrast to all other stock exchanges that provide such information on a timely basis.
