Cyprus Greens claim illegal quarrying in Laona

Despite the repeated complaints of the Green Party District Committee of Paphos, the illegal stone quarrying has increased, according to a party announcement.
For a decade, illegal quarrying in Paphos has put millions of euros into the pockets of businessmen. Unfortunately the state and the quarry services, town planning and local authorities seem unable to control the situation. Luxury mansions are surrounded by huge rocks probably without authorised quarry certificates, the announcement added.
In the Laona area, where the stone is an indispensable element of the natural and constructed environment, illegal quarrying creates irreparable damage.
The “stonebuilt” mansions lead to the increase of the destruction of dry rocks and the uncontrollable quarrying of stones, it added.
