A Cypriot delegation, headed by the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Antonis Paschalides, will be visiting Russia between 8-11 September to discuss energy supplies to Cyprus.

The delegation intends to visit other countries in search of a natural gas supplier to meet local needs.

The delegation will be joined by the Chairman of the Cyprus Electricity Authority (EAC) Board of Directors Charis Thrasou who explained to CNA today that these visits must take place.

“The aim is not to reach an agreement but to look into the possibilities ahead. We need to know who is ready to supply us with natural gas in liquid form, for how long and at what price”, he added.

Any decisions will be taken after the completion of these visits and the employment of consultants for the Energy Centre, to be built here, which will comprise a terminal to store fuel and a land terminal for natural gas.

“We will be ready to take a decision as soon as we have all the data before us”, he noted.

After the 4-day trip to Russia, the delegation will visit Egypt, Libya and Algeria.
