On the basis of preliminary estimates for foreign trade in Cyprus in June 2008, total imports/ arrivals reached EUR 582.5 mln, of which EUR 367.7 mln comprised arrivals from other member states of the EU and EUR 214.8 mln imports from third countries.
Total exports/dispatches reached EUR 105.3 mln, of which EUR 72.7 mln were dispatches to other member states of the EU and EUR 32.6 mln exports to third countries.
The trade deficit in June 2008 was therefore a provisional EUR 477.2 mln, compared with EUR 469.2 mln in June 2007.
For the first six months of the year, the trade deficit widened to EUR 2.96 bln (on the basis of the June estimates), compared with EUR 2.44 bln in January-June 2007.
Revised data for January-May
According to revised data for January-May 2008, total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third countries and arrivals from other member states) amounted to EUR 2,948.0 mln, compared with EUR 2,436.8 mln in January-May 2007.
Total exports/dispatches (covering total exports to third countries and dispatches to other member states) in January-May 2008 were valued at EUR 469.9 mln compared with EUR 470.9 mln in January-May 2007.
The trade deficit was EUR 2,478.1 mln in January-May 2008 compared with EUR 1,965.9 mln in January-May 2007.
During May 2008 total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third countries and arrivals from other member states) valued at EUR 662.1 mln.
Total exports/dispatches (covering total exports to third countries and dispatches to other member states), including stores and provisions, in May 2008 amounted to EUR 112.8 mln.
Εxports/dispatches of domestically produced goods, including stores and provisions, were EUR 57.1 mln, whilst exports/dispatches of foreign goods, including stores and provisions, were EUR 55.7 mln.
