The Cyprus question and the situation in the broader Middle East region were discussed here today during a meeting between Cyprus House President Marios Garoyian and Catholicos of Cilicia of the Armenian Apostolic Church Aram I, who is paying a visit to Cyprus.

An official press release, issued here today, said the meeting took place in a very cordial atmosphere and Garoyian and Aram I underlined the historic bonds of friendship and cooperation between Armenians all over the world and Cyprus, based on common principles and values and extended to the religious, political and cultural fields.

The two men also briefed each other on various matters and exchanged views on the current situation in the Cyprus question and the Middle East and especially Lebanon, where Catholicos’ seat is.

In this framework they noted the important geopolitical position of Cyprus and its potential to play a bridging role between the EU and the Middle East, taking into consideration, inter alia, the recent establishment of the Union for the Mediterranean, of which Cyprus is a member.
