Cyprus trade deficit reaches almost EUR 2 bln in Jan-Apr 2008

The Cyprus trade deficit widened to EUR 1,929.2 mln in January-April 2008 compared with EUR 1,539.7 mln in January-April 2007, according to the latest figures from the Statistical Service.
This amount equivalent to around 37% of GDP in 2007.
Total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third countries and arrivals from other member states) in January-April 2008 amounted to EUR 2,286.3 mln, compared with EUR 1,908.9 mln in January-April 2007.
Total exports/dispatches (covering total exports to third countries and dispatches to other member states) in January-April 2008 reached 357.1 mln, compared with EUR 369.2 mln in January-April 2007.
In April alone total imports/arrivals were valued at EUR 595.6 mln.
Total exports/dispatches amounted to EUR 93.5 mln. Εxports/dispatches of domestically produced goods, including stores and provisions, reached 48.3 mln whilst exports/dispatches of foreign goods, including stores and provisions, reached 45.2 mln.
According to preliminary data for May, total imports/ arrivals reached EUR 585.8 mln, of which EUR 355.6 mn was arrivals from other EU countries and EUR 230.1 mln imports from third countries.
Total exports/dispatches reached EUR 107.3 mln, of which EUR 73.3 mln were dispatches to other member states of the EU and EUR 34.0 mln exports to third countries.
