The National Council will meet on the day after the meeting between President Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat next week. In statements to the press after Wednesday’s cabinet meeting, Government Spokesman Stefanos Stefanou mentioned that the president’s advisory body on the national issue would convene next Wednesday afternoon.
“The President has decided to hold a meeting of the National Council, during which he will brief the participating political parties, and, of course there will be an exchange of views regarding matters concerning the Cyprus problem”, he added.
Asked whether the meeting would be held in light of the meeting with Talat, the spokesman said that the meeting with the Turkish Cypriot community leader would be held on July 1.
“The National Council will convene on the very next day, and the issue will be covered at the meeting. The President will brief the members of the body and there will be a discussion, as usual”, he added.
Stefanou announced that on Thursday, July 3, President Christofias would give a press conference on the first four months of his administration.
