A member of the Cyprus House of Representatives, Eleni Theocharous, has been appointed Honorary Consul of Kyrgyzstan. The announcement was made during Theocharous’ visit to Kyrgyzstan from 18 to 24 of April, following an invitation by the government of the country.
According to a press release issued by the MP’s political office, Kyrgyzstan’s Foreign Minister Εdnan Karabaev, after a meeting with Theocharous, expressed his country’s adherence to international legality and UN resolutions on Cyprus.
The Minister stressed that his government will not recognise, under any circumstances, the illegal Turkish Cypriot regime in Cyprus’ northern Turkish occupied areas.
The UN has described the regime as "legally invalid" and called on all states not to facilitate or recognise it. None but Turkey does.
Theocharous assured that she will do everything possible to promote the mutual interests of the two countries and work for the welfare of Kyrgyzstan citizens who live in Cyprus.
During her visit, the Cypriot MP met other officials to promote trade and health relations between Cyprus and Kyrgyzstan.
