Cyprus Trade Minister in tourism, energy talks with Egyptian Ambassador

The Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Antonis Paschalides had a meeting with the Ambassador of Egypt, Ahmed Ibrahim Ragheb, where they discussed ways of improving and strengthening tourism between the two counties, as well as the possibility of offering tourist packages, which would include both countries, especially in far away markets such as America and Asia.

“With the Ambassador we also discussed the issue of trade in general and noted that there is a possibility of improvement with the two countries maintaining their friendly relations and being able to exploit financially the fact that they are geographically close to each other,” the Minister said.

Finally, Paschalides said that they also discussed the issue of energy, the issue of a more general cooperation and more specifically the possibility of using mechanisms on the basis of which specialists from both countries would be able to exchange views and experiences in the more general framework of this cooperation.

Concluding, the Minister said that he will travel to Egypt in April, where he will substitute the Foreign Minister Markos Kyprianou at an international forum on competition and where he and his colleagues will have contacts with their Egyptian counterparts on all urgent issues. He also noted that he has extended an invitation to the Egyptian Ministers of Trade and Tourism to visit Cyprus.

For his part the Egyptian Ambassador said that there is already an agreement for cooperation in tourism and that mechanisms of improving and implementing it were discussed.

“Our aim is the implementation of all our agreements with Cyprus” he said, adding that the excellent cooperation and the very good relations with Cyprus will be the guarantee for that.
