MTN is launching the 3.5G Mobile Broadband, an enhancement to the third generation (3G) technology, which offers faster internet access speeds using HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) technology.

3.5G download speeds are up to five times faster than 3G and can at present receive data of up to 1.8Mbps, ideal for those constantly on the move and in need of immediate wireless access to their emails and the Internet. It also secures fast data transfers and enables access to office files through VPN (Virtual Private Network). The service is currently limited to Nicosia where there is an increased demand for mobile data communication; but all towns will be hooked up soon.

Initially launched in September 2004 as Areeba, MTN was the first to deploy the 3G network, the Mobile Data Card with the Unlimited Data package, Mobile TV and recently the BlackBerry smartphone platform.

MTN also has the Mobile USB Modem, a compact, mobile device which is compatible with laptops and desktops, is automatically installed on Windows and Macintosh drivers and offers seamless access through the 3G, 2.5G or 2G network when out of the 3.5G coverage. The device can be found in all MTN shops, in Germanos, Aeliotis and other distributors.
