Christofias in Athens for talks

President Demetris Christofias will have talks in Athens with the Greek government and the political leadership this week.

The President leaves for the Greek capital on Tuesday afternoon, his first trip abroad since taking office last Thursday.

President Christofias will meet President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias and Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis and political party leaders.

Christofias informed the Council of Ministers yesterday that he would be flying to Athens on Tuesday for a working visit that will last until Thursday.

The meeting with Greek Premier is scheduled for Wednesday at 12.15. After statements to the press, Karamanlis will host a working lunch for the Cyprus President.

The second trip of Cyprus President will be to Brussels where he will attend the European Council between March, 13-14.

Christofias was elected the sixth President of the Republic at Sunday’s elections with 53.36 per cent of the vote, beating his main rival Ioannis Kasoulides, who got 46.64 per cent.
