The bad weather conditions in Greece have affected seriously Cyprus Airways’ scheduled flights as one of the airline’s jets which was to carry out a flight to London was stranded at snow-covered Eleftherios Venizelos Airport, in the Greek capital.

Cyprus Airways Spokesman Kyriacos Kyriacou said two flights to Athens, scheduled for 0700 and 0930 were delayed as well as flight CY 504 which was scheduled from Larnaca to London via Paphos.

He said CY has hired an aircraft from chartered airline Eurocypria, which belongs to the CY group, and the flight will depart for Paphos at 1100 and at 1130 from Paphos to London.

According to Kyriacou, it is uncertain whether the flights to Athens, scheduled at 1600 (CY336) and 1930 (CY348) will be carried out according to the set schedule.

On Sunday, a scheduled flight from Athens to Larnaca, carrying Greek Cypriots to vote for yesterday’s presidential elections, and expected to arrive at 13.50 did not take place since the A330 jet remained trapped at Athens airport. Another four CY flights to Athens were cancelled.

Kyriacou called on passengers to be patient and understanding and assured them that the company is making all the necessary arrangements to carry out the flights in safety as soon as weather conditions permit.
