Moscow (CNA) — Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the European Union, Ambassador Vladimir Chizov, has ruled out the possibility that the EU countries reach a consensus in the Kosovo issue, making a special reference to the Republic of Cyprus.

”Cypriots will not be convinced, this is not possible”, Chizov told reporters in Brussels, according to Ria Novosti news agency.

Chizov reiterated the Russian positions on the issue and deemed that the recognition by EU countries of the unilateral declaration of the independence of Kosovo could have a negative impact on the political dialogue between Russia and the EU.

According to an other russian news agency, Itar – Tass, ”Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, Cyprus, Spain and Slovakia will not recognize the independence of the Kosovo region without a previous decision by the UN Security Council” since this would be a precedent in the hands of autonomists all over the world.
