EU Med FMs meet in Paphos

Foreign Ministers of ten Mediterranean countries, members of the EU, continue their deliberations in Paphos where the 5th Informal Meeting is taking place.

Today, the Foreign Ministers will discuss during their working plenary session, illegal immigration, the natural disaster response mechanism and Kosovo.

On the sidelines of the Meeting, several bilateral meetings are taking place among the ten participant countries (Cyprus, Greece, Malta, Spain, Italy, Portugal, France, Romania, Bulgaria and Slovenia).

In the morning, Foreign Minister of Cyprus Erato Kozakou – Marcoullis, who chairs the Meeting, will discuss European affairs matters with her Slovenian counterpart Dimitri Rupel whose country holds the current EU presidency.

A press conference will take place at midday, followed by a working lunch during which the Ministers will discuss the establishment of a Mediterranean Union.

Last night, President of the Republic of Cyprus Tassos Papadopoulos welcomed the EU Foreign Ministers during a reception hosted by him at the venue in the coastal town of Paphos.

Also, last night, the Foreign Ministers discussed during a working dinner the Middle East process.

The meeting in Paphos is organised on an initiative by the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Cyprus.

This informal meeting is convened twice a year, at the beginning of each EU Presidency. The purpose is to coordinate and strengthen cooperation among the Mediterranean countries,
