Kasoulides meets with German Chancellor

The Cyprus question, Cyprus position within the EU and the prospect of joining Partnership for Peace were discussed during a meeting member of the European Parliament, former Foreign Minister and candidate for the presidency of the Republic of Cyprus Ioannis Kasoulides had Monday in Berlin with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

In statements after the meeting, Kasoulides described Merkel as one of the most important political leaders in Europe and the world and noted that he discussed with her the Cyprus question and the prospects for support by the EU in order to terminate Cyprus’ occupation by Turkey.

“We also talked about other issues such as the need for Cyprus to apply for membership to the Partnership for Peace, about Kosovo and about Turkey’s EU accession course,” he added.

Kasoulides assessed that “Cyprus can regain its friends and allies” that will help the country to achieve its goals as regards the settlement of its political problem”.

Cyprus presidential elections will take place in February 2008.
