Greek National Defence Minister to visit Cyprus

Greek Minister of National Defence Evaggelos Meimarakis arrives tomorrow in Cyprus for a visit, during which he will be received by President of the Republic of Cyprus Tassos Papadopoulos.

According to the programme of his visit, the Greek Minister will arrive at Larnaca airport on board a C130. At midday he will be received by President Papadopoulos and at 14:00 he will depart for the House of Representatives to meet House President Demetris Christofias.

At 17:00 he will meet main opposition party leader, president of the Democartic Rally Nicos Anastasiades.

Later on he will have a meeting with his Cypriot counterpart Christodoulos Pashiardes at the National Guard General Staff’s headquarters.

In the evening he will visit the “Andreas Zakos” military camp in Nicosia where he will attend a dinner hosted in his honor by Commander of the Greek forces in Cyprus (ELDYK) Athanasios Kyriakopoulos.

Meimarakis and his entourage will return to Greece on Wednesday.

The Republic of Cyprus has been occupied since 1974 when Turkish troops invaded and occupied its northern third. Cyprus became a full EU member state in May 2004.
