President Tassos Papadopoulos has said that the various problems, which are constantly arising, will only be resolved once the Cyprus issue is settled and the country, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion, is reunited.

The President’s comments came following a protest by Turkish Cypriots against measures imposed by the illegal regime in Turkish occupied Cyprus, both on the mobility of Turkish and Greek Cypriots via crossing points to and from the occupied areas and the purchase of goods by Turkish Cypriots from the government controlled areas.

The illegal Turkish Cypriot regime claims that the measures were put in place in response to the foot and mouth disease (FMD) outbreak in the southern government controlled part of the country even though the European Union has eased restrictions.

“All these problems are the result of the continuing occupation by Turkey. They will only be eliminated through reunification, which will be to the best interests of the people of Cyprus, Greek and Turkish Cypriots,” the President said, speaking at Larnaca airport on his return from Brussels.
