Buckingham celebrates law school success with Cyprus reception

The University of Buckingham celebrated the return of its School of Law to the top 20 ranking in the UK national league tables.

As Britain’s only independent and smallest mainstream university offering the pioneering two-year law degree, it has, for 15 years, been trying to fit within the framework of the league tables of excellence, and now it has been proven to have been worth the effort.

Because of its independent status the university is not subject to compulsory government inspection. However, being aware of the importance of external scrutiny to its academic reputation and wanting to confirm to parents and students that standards at Buckingham are among the highest in the UK, the university invited the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education to audit it. The audit report confirmed that “broad confidence be placed in the university’s current and likely future management of the quality of its programmes” and particularly commended “the commitment of staff to providing academic and pastoral support to students”.

To celebrate its success, the University of Buckingham together with its official representatives in Cyprus, S.M.A.R.T. Options Educational Services, organised a cocktail reception for its alumni, parents of current students, friends of the university and prospective students.

Both Irving Stevens, Senior Lecturer in Law, Admissions Tutor to Law at the University of Buckingham and Marlene Philippou, Director of S.MA.R.T. Options Educational Services, welcomed the attendees and updated them on current developments.

The whole event was sponsored by Christodoulos G. Vassiliades, Advocates and Legal Consultants.
