Nicosia Mayor decorates Chinese Vice Premier

Nicosia Mayor Eleni Mavrou decorated Thursday the Vice Premier of the People’s Republic of China Hui Liangyu with the Medal of the Town of Nicosia and presented him with an honorary certificate.

In her address, Mavrou referred to the difficulties the town and its citizens are facing due to the continuing division.

She added that the existence of the dividing line “makes us to intensify our efforts for reunification the soonest.”

She also said that with this decoration the Municipality of Nicosia underlines its engagement to reinforce further the already good relations between the two countries, the two capitals and the peoples of Cyprus and China.

Mavrou escorted the Chinese official during a guided tour at the old town of Nicosia and at the cease-fire-line post at Ledra Street in the southern government controlled areas of the Republic.
