After a brief turnaround in the summer season the number of tourist arrivals in Cyprus slipped back again in October, reaching 275,103 according to the Passengers’ Survey, compared with 283,046 in October 2006.

Arrivals thus fell by 2.8% compared with the same month of the previous year.

The important UK market continued to underperform, with arrivals falling by 5.6% to 150,301, compared with 159,205 in October 2006.

Arrivals from Germany, which has also been a poor market this year, perhaps as a result of the VAT increase in January, fell by 22.0% to 17.490, compared with 22,433 in October 2006.

On the other hand, an increase of 29.7% to 18,541 was recorded in tourist arrivals from Sweden and an increase of 13.6% to 13,371 from Russia.

For the period January-October 2007 arrivals of tourists totalled 2,247,596 compared with 2,234,219 in the corresponding period of 2006, recording an increase of just 0.6%.
