Cyprus’ Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Andreas Mavroyiannis, as Chairman of the Committee on Relations with the Host Country has submitted the annual report of the Committee to the Sixth Committee (Legal) of the UN General Assembly.

Traditionally chaired by successive Permanent Representatives of Cyprus, the Committee on Relations with the Host Country was established in 1971 to deal with the security of diplomatic missions accredited to the United Nations and their personnel, issues such as visas, immigration and customs procedures and taxation, housing and transportation as well as public relations issues with the host city.

The Committee submits its annual report to the Sixth Committee, since its obligations derive from the legal instruments such as the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the Convention for the Privileges and Immunities of the UN.

Mavroyiannis submitted on behalf of Bulgaria, Canada, Costa Rica and Cote d’Ivoire a draft resolution adopting the conclusions and proposals of the report of the Committee, which was unanimously approved.
