Cypriot at helm of Round Table International

George M Psaras, a member of Round Table Cyprus for the past 16 years, was elected Vice President of Round Table International and will be taking over as President of the global organization in August 2008.

Round Table was established in Norwich, England on March 14, 1927. Its aims and objectives concentrate on community service and the highest standards of professional ethics.

Eighty years later Round Table International is represented in 72 countries and has a membership of at least 40,000. Along with its sister organizations Ladies’ Circle, Tangent Club and 41 Club it is one of the largest federations of clubs in the world.

George Psaras joined Round Table 1 Nicosia in November 1991. In 1994 he was elected president of his club and in 1997 became chairman of the Association of Round Tables of Cyprus, a post he took again in 2002.

Psaras was the first president of Life Education Cyprus, the foundation established by Round Table Cyprus,

Cyprus and 41 Club Cyprus that works for the education of children against the use of addictive substances using 12 mobile high-tech classrooms. Life Education has become an integral part of the official educational curriculum of the Ministry of Education.

In 2003 Psaras was the driving force behind the efforts to establish Round Table 1 Athens and at the European conference of Round Tables held in Lausanne, he received the Most Outstanding Member of the Year Award for Europe.

In 2004, George Psaras and Round Table Cyprus chartered Round Table 2 and 3 of Athens and soon after established the Association of Round Tables of Greece with the assistance of the Round Table associations of Great Britain and Ireland, Austria and Belgium. In 2004, in Katmandu, Nepal, he received the Most Outstanding Member of the Year Award internationally in recognition of his achievements in Europe and internationally.

George Psaras is an actuary and the Deputy Managing Director of a regional actuarial and management consulting firm.
