Cyprus retail sales up prov 9.1% y/y in August

Retail sales volumes rose by 9.1% year on year on August, according to provisional data, following a revised increase of 10.3% in July.

In the period January-August 2007 the turnover volume index of retail trade is provisionally estimated to have increased by 7.8% compared with the corresponding period of 2006.

In the first seven months of the year, the index rose by 7.6% year on year.

Meanwhile, the turnover index by value rose by 10.9% year on year in January-August.

With the exception of second-hand sales and sales of “food, beverages and tobacco in specialised stores”, all categories of retail sales showed a strong increase in the first eight months of the year in volume terms.

The strongest was pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and toiletries, up by 16.5% year on year.
