Finance Minister Michael Sarris will present the world’s first management art book ‘The Art of Innovation: Integrating Creativity in Organizations’ on Friday at 7.30pm at the Journalists’ House in Nicosia. There will be short presentations from the author Dimis Michaelides, the artist Umit Inatci and Constantinos Markides, Professor at the London Business School. The paintings that form part of the book will also be exhibited and a cocktail reception will follow.

The publication of the book is part of the efforts and dedication of Performa Productions to promote creativity and innovation in organizations. Dimis Michaelides and Umit Inatci combined their knowledge and expertise in the fields of management and the arts and compiled an extraordinary piece of work, a symbolic approach to organizational planning and an aesthetic contribution to business management literature.

The book is based on the conviction of the author that creativity and innovation are sources of competitive advantages, improve work satisfaction and lead to increased performance. They are also the best allies in dealing with the challenges brought about by the increased pace of change in all fields.

The writer believes that it is possible for innovation to become a way of life in any organization that pursues such a feat and that success in this is an art – the composition of twelve elements that need to be approached artfully: talent, energy, methodology, person, team, target, system, ideas, freedom, commitment, humor and risk.

In all, 16 paintings by Umit Inatci, to be exhibited for the first time, visually represent these elements and their composition. Each element is accompanied by a symbol which is explained semantically. A special alphabet – invention of the artist – accompanies the text. Presented in a unique and artistic way, ‘The Art of Innovation’ is about how to promote creativity in organizations. It will benefit business practitioners and theorists, and anyone with a special interest in creativity and innovation. It is sold at bookstores (distributed by Moufflon Distribution) and available directly from the author at [email protected] and Performa www.performa.net .

Dimis Michaelides is unorthodox in every sense of the word. Having survived senior executive management positions in several large organizations such as the World Bank, Zeneca and the Popular Bank group, he has come to the conclusion that organizations must innovate or die. Through his company, Performa Consulting, Dimis brings his unique talents as a speaker, facilitator, magician, musician, manager and art lover to inspire people in organizations.
