President of the Cyprus Football Association (CFA) Costakis Koutsokoumnis has expressed satisfaction with the results of Thursday’s meeting in Zurich between CFA, FIFA, UEFA and representatives of the Turkish Cypriots, regarding the status of Turkish Cypriot football clubs.

Koutsokoumnis told CNA that FIFA clarified at the meeting that the only thing that could apply was its own memorandum of association, which recognised CFA as the federation representing Cyprus, and that CFA was responsible for any matter concerning football in Cyprus.

He added that they would meet again in Zurich on October 27 to continue their discussions, in the hope that ”we can reach a settlement or state that there is no room for further discussions.”

Replying to questions, Koutsokoumnis said it was important during the first meeting that the Turkish Cypriots realised that any international contact could only be made through CFA.
